Colds and Flu Do-it-Yourself Remedies

I have compiled some health tips you can use to help when you feel a cold coming on.
The best time to administer any of these tips is at the very beginning of the cold or flu
when you start to have mild symptoms such as a scratchy throat, tiredness, pressure in your head or face. The symptoms will disappear rapidly if caught at the beginning.
If you already have the cold or flu these tips will help alleviate your symptoms and
quicken your recovery time.

Garlic – One of the best and most effective tonics for the immune system. Eating 2 fresh
cloves a day with food will give you a major boost on your immune system. If that is hard to do, the next best thing is cooking with fresh garlic cloves.

Lemon – At the beginning of a sore throat or cold taking 2-4 tablespoons at a time of natural lemon juice is beneficial. Every 1-2 hours and it should clear the problem within a day. Use real lemons not concentrate.

Salt - Powerful natural remedy against flu and throat infections. Into a small glass or cup of warm water add a teaspoon of salt and gargle in the back of your throat. If you tilt your head backwards it will help. Repeat for a minute or two if you can. You can then wash your mouth with clean water but don’t have the clean water reach back to your pharynx. Again when you first start to have flu or cold symptoms do this every 15 to 20 minutes. Using this method should help you avoid a full infection.

Soup – One of the many soups recipes you can use for a cold or flu:

1 chopped scallion
1 inch of fresh ginger
1 Tbsp. miso
2 cloves of fresh garlic
4 cups of water

Add all ingredients, bring to boil, simmer for 15 minutes. Drink one cup every hour. You will begin to sweat.

Visiting an Acupuncture Physician who also utilizes Chinese Herbs or Essential Oils in their practice is a powerful way to boost your immune system so that you have more energy available to you to ward off the colds. You spend more time in health feeling good instead of battling with colds and flu which can keep you feeling exhausted and from missed opportunites.
